FDA on Food Safety and COVID-19
Jun 03, 2020
The FDA regularly updates its guidance and resources available to food industry members and consumers on COVID-19 and food safety. The information is intended to assist consumers, the food industry workforce, retail food stores, restaurants, and food pick-up & delivery services.
The question and answer format addresses multiple topics and covers issues related to:
- Food Supply Chain
- Social Distancing, Disinfecting & Other Precautions
- Temporary Policy
- Workers Testing Positive
Of particular interest are statements that are directly related to food safety. For example, the FDA does not anticipate that food products would need to be recalled or be withdrawn from the market because of COVID-19, as there is currently no evidence to support the transmission of COVID-19 associated with food or food packaging.

FDA also maintains a webpage covering Frequently Asked Questions related to COVID-19. The FAQ covers a broad spectrum of topics including General Information, Vaccines, Drugs, & Medical Devices, Animals, as well as Food Products. That FAQ can be found here:
